DERMATOLOGY

Our dermatologists can address a multitude of skincare issues and can help your skin benefit from their expert care. While some conditions cause mild symptoms, persistent redness, itching, or rashes are some of the signs to see a dermatologist.

Some common issues that our dermatologists can help you with and provide treatment for include:

Acne: Acne can be stressful for any adolescent. In fact, contrary to common belief, it is quite common in adults as well. It occurs when the follicles of your hair become blocked with oil, dirt, and dead skin cells and are usually triggered by hormonal changes due to pregnancy and other conditions. Whiteheads, blackheads, cysts, and nodules are some of the common acne lesions.

If you have acne that is not responding to over-the-counter skin treatments, you should see a dermatologist because untreated acne can cause permanent scars and skin discoloration.

Eczema: Itching and redness are the first signs of eczema, a skin condition that causes inflamed, itchy, rough patches of skin and even blisters in some cases. Eczema can appear anywhere on your body. It results from a combination of immune system activation, genetics, environmental triggers, and stress. Our dermatologists can prescribe necessary treatment depending on the location and severity of the inflammation.

Shingles: Shingles is characterized by a rash or blisters on the skin. There are higher chances of getting it when your immune system has been compromised due to an infection or stress. It is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which is also responsible for chickenpox. If you have shingles, try to avoid anyone who hasn’t had chickenpox or the chickenpox vaccine. Shingles symptoms include shooting pain, tingling, burning, or itching.

Hives: Hives are skin rashes that appear as red raised bumps or welts. They are a common skin reaction to allergens, temperature extremes, stress, or infections.

Sunburn: While eating a healthy diet protects the skin, sun damage can cause dryness, discoloration, and other spots that can impact your skin appearance.

Contact Dermatitis: Most of us have experienced contact dermatitis, which occurs when our skin comes into contact with something that causes a skin reaction. Patch testing may be recommended if the cause of the reaction is unknown. Our dermatologist can provide you with skincare advice to reduce your exposure to potentially harmful elements.

If you suffer from any other skin disorder, we suggest you to visit one of our dermatologists who can assess your skin condition and recommend appropriate treatments.
