HEALTH CHECKUP PREPARATION
WHAT DOES YOUR MEDICAL CHECK UP CONSIST OF?
PART 1: Sample of blood, urine (and stool) collected at Raffles Medical center.
PART 2: Vital Signs | Height & Weight Measurements | Audiometry | Radiology | ECG | Abdominal Ultrasound | Optometry | Gynecological Exam
PART 3: Consultation with our doctor.
(*) Blood, urine, and stool samples will need to be collected at our medical center.
(*) (For women only), please inform your nurse if you are menstruating on the day of your checkup. Urine and stool sample collections including HPV test or Pap smears will need to be postponed to 5 days after the menstrual period, as blood contamination in these tests may produce inaccurate results and interpretations. Any samples collected seven days or more after the physical examination will not be accepted. This will enable our doctor to summarize your medical report in timely manner without holding up any pending tests.
(*) Lab processing may take up to two working days. Certain tests may require longer processing time (e.g: Pap smear & HPV between may take up to 5 working days).
TIPS BEFORE YOUR HEALTH CHECKUP
Get at least six hours of sleep prior to the checkup. Lack of sleep may cause abnormal results in blood pressure, heartbeat, and body temperature, and the doctor may not be able to assess if any change is a real abnormality.
- Prepare for blood test: do not eat or drink for at least 8–10 hours prior to getting a blood test. However, water can be freely taken to avoid the effects of dehydration on your blood sugar level and cholesterol levels in the tests. If you are not going to do a blood test as mentioned above, you can eat and drink as usual.
- Please do not drink alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment as drugs and alcohol may affect some tests. If you have consumed alcohol, please inform the doctor or nurse before the test.
- If you are taking medicine for hypertension, you may continue taking it as per your doctor’s prescription. For any other medical conditions, please check with your doctor if it is possible for you to postpone your routine morning medication until your blood sample is taken.
- If you are pregnant, please inform the staff to cancel the X-ray.
- If you have a chronic illness or other health problems, please bring any test results or medical report for diagnosis support purposes.
- Wear comfortable clothing that allows for access to upper arm.
- For stool analysis, please avoid taking red meat and iron supplements for three days before your appointment. Collect and provide your stool sample (about 2 teaspoons) into a small clean plastic container provided by Raffles Medical with your name labeled on the container in the morning of your appointment.
- For women with digital mammograms, do not wear any deodorant, perfume, powder or moisturiser under your armpits or breasts as it may interfere with the quality of the mammogram. Avoid having your test during your menstrual period as the breasts are tense at that time. Please schedule your appointment about 5–7 days after your menstrual period. Tell your radiographer if you have breast implants/hormone replacement therapy or a cardiac device such as a pacemaker. Wearing a blouse with a skirt or slacks will be more convenient for you than a dress.
- For eye tests, those who wear glasses should bring them for the scheduled vision test.
- Please be aware that punctuality is required.
GUIDELINE FOR BLOOD, URINE, STOOL SAMPLE COLLECTION
