Dr. Ong became a doctor almost by chance. A talented young student in a range of fields of study, Dr. Ong decided to hedge his bets by applying to both law and medical schools—finally settling on medicine once he was accepted at the National University of Singapore, where he graduated in 2004. Following that time, Dr. Ong worked for almost every major hospital group in Singapore, practicing in various private and public hospitals as well as outpatient clinics and inpatient wards—becoming a family physician in 2012 after some years of training in the field.
A strong professional curiosity eventually led Dr. Ong to qualify as a hospitalist, a relatively new area of family medicine. His special expertise led to him being invited to Vietnam on a number of occasions to present talks on his specialist area, actively working with the Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine in Saigon to promote Singapore’s model of family medicine in this country. He then decided to relocate his practice to Vietnam, moving to Ho Chi Minh City to join Raffles Medical in 2015.
As an elite practitioner of family medicine, Dr. Ong’s work at Raffles Medical has served to support our clinic’s exemplary standard of practice in the field, dealing with medical issues more commonly seen at the hospital level. Dr. Ong sees a great strength in our medical group’s internationally based network of specialists—who directly support our team of family doctors in an open exchange of knowledge and expertise.
