Dr. Orly has more than 20 years of experience practicing as a paediatrician. Originally obtaining her medical degree from the Hadassah Medical School at Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Dr. Orly served as a military physician before completing her paediatric residency in 2004 at Kaplan hospital in Rehovot, Israel—where she worked many shifts in ER.
Initially working in the paediatric emergency department as a senior doctor and in a center for the evaluation and treatment of children on the autistic spectrum (as well as those experiencing other developmental delays), Dr. Orly joined an international clinic in Hanoi, Vietnam in October 2009 before moving to Raffles Medical in HCMC three years ago. What was intended to be a “one-year adventure trip” turned out to be a long-term career in this country.
Dr. Orly has a wealth of experience in treating child pediatric illnesses, from coughs & colds through to chronic conditions. She enjoys following up on the growth of babies and toddlers, working hand in hand with parents while checking to ensure their children reach healthy developmental milestones. She continues her work with autistic children in Saigon, especially given her observation that awareness of such conditions is very low in Vietnam—and with parents and teachers often finding the topic awkward to discuss, detection and diagnosis is made at a very late stage. While the prevailing belief in Vietnam remains that children will grow out of such disorders, Dr. Orly sees a high number of cases among her patients, with girls often more severely afflicted than boys. Her work in this area centres on building a support network for children suffering from this condition.
